let’s talk about abuse

This workshop will explore the nature and definitions of abusese and its definse. It focuses on sexual abuse, how people can respond and what the church can do to respond.

anger: how to deal with anger 

Anger is an emotion that we all experience, and which makes us aware that there is a problem somewhere in our lives. This workshop will explore what anger is, and how to respond to it in ways that are helpful and not hurtful. For teachers, understanding the nature of anger and having some practical anger management techniques can be helpful in achieving a calmer classroom environment.

We get angry and we experience anger from others. Yet, what is anger? This presentation aims to think through anger from a biblical perspective so we understand more of what the Bible says anger is.


anger part 2: processing anger

Having understood more about anger, we seek in this second presentation to explore ways to process our anger. How do we take moments of anger and turn them into moments that further God’s purpose?

anxiety: I want to run away – a primer on anxiety

This presentation describes anxiety, some of its causes, and treatments.

Anxiety & depression

Anxiety is not completely negative, but it can get out of control. In group sessions, participants will learn how anxiety works, how to self-regulate, and how to create a routine that will help them live life accordiing to biblical principles.

Anxiety and depression are a reality for some children, impacting how they learn and develop. To assist children in this struggle we need to understand the different types of anxiety disorders, the factors that contribute to them, and ways to create a community of care and support to diminish the impact they have on the individual.

body dysmorphia

This workshop is all about teaching particpants to see themselves as God sees them. This workshop will cover understanding body dysmorphia and its prevalence,  how perception changes viewpoint, and some tools for seeking help or helping others.

building stronger relationships

There are many elements that threaten and destroy marital and family relationships. Often, however, we are unaware of the underlying currents in our daily interactions with our spouse and children that cause strife in our personal lives. To improve relationships, it’s important to look at both what causes conflict, and the solutions God’s word offers to us.

bullying

A safe school environment in which students feel connected and valued has been demonstrated to be a factor in higher rates of student achievement. However, bullying often goes undetected in schools. In fact, adults typically identify less than 18 percent of bullying incidents. This workshop is intended to provide a starting point to address bullying in your class, the playground and the school community.

Career day: counselling

Does your school host a career exploration day? Our presentation explains what counselling is and what it is not, the work environment,  the career path, and the education required for the different fields of counselling.

connecting through communication

In today’s world, we are more connected by technology than ever before. Technology provides a number of good ministry opportunities. However, the quality of our relationships can suffer if we are not careful. This presentation explores ways to maintain connection in  relationships in this age of information and social media.

coping with stress

Stress is a much-needed force to get us going. But how much is too much? Learn to know the difference between healthy and unhealthy stress and to take a self-reflective break.

crisis & trauma intervention: a psychological first aid course

This six-hour course covers key areas related to crisis and trauma care. This topic can also be offered as a shorter presentation.

It is important to understand what depression is, what it tells us about oneself and how listening to our depression means it is time for self-care. We will learn how to listen to our intrusive negative thoughts and bring them captive to the truth of God.

*For teens and adults

Depression and anxiety impacts all cultures, ages, socio-economic strata, religions and ways of life. Individuals can often experience a bout of depression without actually knowing it. It can be frustrating to not know what’s amiss and it can be validating to finally gain an understanding of self! This presentation tackles the symptoms of both depression and anxiety, including the physical manifestations so that we know what to look for. It includes information on what helps, where to go for support, and what to look for in peers.

This presentation is for those who would like to walk with and give hope to others experiencing depression. We’ll learn how to better understand depression, what the struggle can be like, and how to be of help in a caring way.

domestic violence: creating awareness & response

This presentation will cover the nature of domestic violence, share some stories and examples of what it could look like, and describe the effect it can have. Scripture will be used to support an understanding of violence and learning how to respond. 

Faith, Focus, and Feelings: Navigating ADHD in Women. Strategies on Managing Executive Functioning, and Emotional Dysregulation

This workshop, specifically designed for women, will focus on ADHD and the affect that it has, as well as some coping strategies recognizing that we are all image bearers of God.

This presentation explores the topic of gender identity and the struggles that go with it. We’ll cover definitions, what the Bible has to say about gender, and ways to offer help to those who struggle with gender.

marriage: who does the dishes?

This presentation focuses on intimacy in marriage, including ways to bring couples closer together.

mental health

A general primer for understanding mental health and mental illness. In this course we examine the complexity of mental illness by defining what mental illness is, the three main causes, and the spiritual ramifications of each cause. With a better understanding of mental illness, we can better attack the stigma surrounding it, and to also be more confident in our approaches to help those in the midst of the struggle.

This 2-hour workshop looks at mental health in the context of church – specifically mental wellness, challenges members face, challenges church leaders face, anger, and anxiety.

part 1: ssa and the bible

This presentation starts with showing the need to discuss same sex attraction in our churches. It continues by defining SSA and investigating what the Bible has to say about homosexuality. This presentation is intended to give hope to those who struggle with SSA by setting their struggle in the context of truth. This includes the truth of the God of scripture being the dispenser of mercy and grace.

part 2: support and care

This presentation, designed to build hope, calls all to come from a place of humility. It presents practical matters to be considered as we walk with those who struggle with SSA, or as we consider our own struggle. 

self harm

Self-Injury refers to deliberate, self-inflicted tissue damage such as cutting or burning. Self-injury has reached alarming proportions among our youth; studies show that 14-24% of adolsecents and young adults have engaged in this behaviour at least once, with a quarter of these reporting current, chronic self-injury. This workshop will assist participants in understanding the experience and motivations of adolescents who intentionally injure themselves. Participants of this training will increase their insight regarding self-injury behaviour in youth and be provided with a framework for effective intervention.

shepherding god’s flock

Pastoral care training for elders and ministers. This course works through several pastoral issues faced in congregations by ministers and elders. The course can be divided into individual presentations if desired.

stewardship of self: preventing burnout

Which do you practice: self-denial or self-neglect? How do you know? How can you grow in sensitivity and learn to prioritize God’s purposes? The topic of self-care has thousands of practical and debatable considerations, and thousands of legitimate and important cautions that go with them. Nevertheless, it is an important topic and one we need to think about, for the way we handle it reveals a great deal about our hearts, what we believe about ourselves, and what we believe about God.

This workship is designed to enhance communcation and effectivness using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The MBTI is an assessment that looks at normal differences between people and focuses on what energizes you, how you take in information, how you make decisions, and your general approach to life. This information is used to help you better understand your and your colleagues’ leadership styles, so that you can be more effective as a team, utilizing the gifts and strengths God has blessed you with.

the teenage brain

The human brain is always changing. The biggest, most important changes occur during adolescence. Because of these changes, the role of a parent or teacher can be challenging as it appears the teen is making poor decisions or is bored. Understanding the brain from a developmental stance can help parents and teachers to teach in a way that is more effective for a teenager to understand, retain and learn.

trauma-informed care in schools

This course looks at developmental stages, the impact trauma has on development and how that can impact students at school. Participants will learn what the school can do to support students who have experienced trauma.

For SK – Grade 2; Grades 3 – 5 and grades 6 – 8. This workshop involves talking about our emotions, what mental health is, good mental health, and not-so-good mental health. These topics are typically covered in assemblies with classroom visits tailored to each grade.
