Brave Hearts – Fighting for Hope in A World of Anxiety and Depression

We live in a world where anxiety and depression are on the rise, and our children and teenagers are not immune to this. Peer pressure, high academic and athletic expectations, bullying, strained family relationships and ever-changing dynamics of social media create overwhelming situations. When parents or children recognize the struggle is present, it can be hard to know where to turn. Mental health resources are often scarce, and as Christians, we want to ensure our family receives guidance that is consistent with our faith and values. This presentation aims to provide an overview of the following: general psychoeducation about anxiety and depression, exploration about how these issues impact children and teens within their families, and some general ways of coping. In Christ there is always hope, and we can find ways as parents, friends and family to encourage those who are struggling. We know this world brings trouble to each one of us, but as Jesus reassures us, “Take heart, I have overcome the world,” (John 16:33).
